We are living through an unprecedented era of change for shoppers. The emergence of new technologies continues to fuel new types of shopping behaviour and the traditional power of brands and retailers is crumbling. This is the New Age of the Shopper.

Simon Goodall, Director of Strategy at Saatchi & Saatchi X

Simon will talk about how shopper behaviour has turned on its head since Saatchi & Saatchi X helped to pioneer Shopper Marketing in the late 90’s. From the long-held maxim that 70% of purchasing decisions are made in-store, we are now in world where 83% of shoppers claim that they are making purchase decisions out of the store. Simon will expand on four key drivers of this unprecedented change (new value mindset, a crisis of trust, unprecedented choice and always on technology) and what brands should be doing to win in this New Age of the Shopper.

Derek Scobie, FMCG Industry Head at Google UK

Derek will talk about the rise of mums as digital gurus. Mums are adopting smartphones and tablets faster than any other segment, they are the driving force behind shopper-related search growth and UK mums are the most heavily engaged grocery.com spenders in the world. With reference to latest data and insights from Google, he will share some of the driving forces and trends behind this quiet revolution and three key ways that shoppers’ needs need to be better met with technology in the future.
